In my Cosy article No.23, 'The Julia Smith Story,' I wrote of my frustration at never having seen a single photo of the above lady. She was my grandmother, my mothers mother, and there was nowhere in our enormous family where a single image of this extraordinary woman could be seen, but she was part of our family heritage and that seemed wrong. Some of you have read that article, written in February 2013, and you may recall it's closing paragraph where I issued a challenge to my nephew, Peter Tuffs. I challenged him to get onto the estate of H.G Wells and then use his famous time machine to create a book called, 'The Smith Family.' I finished by saying, "I might then, at last, see what my grandmother looked like." Some seven months later I was delighted to add a PS to this story and it said..

Peter Tuffs to the Rescue. This morning I received an email from my nephew, with a photo of my grandmother holding my brother Wally.
In his wonderful book, 'Proud To Be A Tuffs,' Pete has gone even farther in satisfying my request. There are photos of all four of my grandparents and of the places they lived. Photos I thought I'd never see. Some, I presume, originate from my sister Glad's time living in Hoxne and others from my cousin Dorothy's archives. Others, I suspect, come from closer to home and have been stored safely and lovingly out of sight by my beloved brother Bob. No matter the origins, I am both pleased and delighted to at last see these images of my kinfolk, the family line we Tuffs come from and where our ancestors once lived. I will be forever grateful to my nephew Peter for his making things happen and publishing his book for us all to enjoy. Thanks for taking up the challenge Pete and I suspect I'm not alone in being proud to be your Uncle!
